Kirk:-
·        “Gifted children are those who have superior ability to deal with facts, ideas, and relationships”.

Havighurst (1958):-
·        “the talented or gifted child is one who shows consistently remarkable performance in any worthwhile line of endeavor.”

Marland report (1972):-
·        The gifted are those who possess outstanding abilities or potential in the area of general intellectual capacity, specific academic aptitude, creative or productive thinking leadership ability, visual or performing arts and psycho-motor activity”.


Characteristics of gifted children
·        Exceptional
·        Superior in some ability and performance
·        Not only academically talented but also music, dance, art, mechanical work, Creative exploration, physical activities.. etc.
·        Learns rapidly and easily
·        Know about many things
·        Rich vocabulary
·        Quick in understanding
·        Alert, keenly observant and responds quickly
·        Very high IQ   (140 +)
·        Curious and enjoys learning new things
·        Absorb information rapidly and with less repetition
·        Excellent memory
·        Long attention span
·        Excellent reasoning and problem solving skills
·        Intense interests
·        Unusual and/or vivid imagination
·        Usually intrinsically motivated to learn
·        Interested in philosophical and social issues
·        Concerned about fairness and injustice
·        Energetic
·        Asynchronous development
·        Well-developed sense of humor
·        Perfectionistic
·        Prefer books and magazines meant for older children

·        Group test of Intelligence
·        Achievement test
·        Check Cumulative record
·        Aptitude test, interest inventory, anecdotal record etc.
·        Observation
