Concept of Exceptional Children
·        Exceptional children are those who deviate significantly from the normal ones.
·        Telford and Sawery (1977):-“The term exceptional children refers to those children who deviate from the normal in physical, mental, emotional or social characteristics to such degree that they require special social and educational services to develop their maximum capacity”.
·        In short, a child who wants special care, special assistance and appliances to adjust himself in his environment is generally considered as child with special needs.

Intellectually Exceptional
·        Gifted children
·        Academically Backward Children
·        Creative Child
·        Under achiever
·        Learning Disabled Children
·        Mentally retarded

Physically Exceptional
·        The deaf and dump
·        The blind and near blind
·        Orthopedically handicapped
·        Children with speech defects

Emotionally Exceptional
·        Delinquent
Multi Exceptional

Children with more than one defect
